PATROLLERS HONOURED

TWO Lake Mountain Alpine Resort (LMAR) identities and long-serving ski patrollers - Ray Malins and Keith Brandenberger (dec.), have been honoured for their services.

LMAR management formally acknowledged Ray for his "outstanding service to the skiing youth of Victoria through his involvement in the organisation of the Lake Mountain Mini Series for 20 years", while Lake Mountain Ski Patrol honoured its former president and treasurer, Keith, with his award.

The 2015 season was Ray's 21st year as organiser of the mini series which aims to promote cross country skiing among primary and secondary school students in a fun and friendly environment. Ray's positive and friendly disposition has always been a winner, as both the mini series organiser and as a ski patroller.

"The conditions can be wet and miserable while Ray is hosting a mini series or on patrol, but he will always comment 'What a great day'," said resort manager Scott Gamble.

Ray, who lives in Montrose, has been a member of LMSP since 2003.

Keith Brandenberger received his LMSP award in recognition of his amazing contribution to ski patrol over more than four decades.

Keith, who was still patrolling until a short time before he passed away in 2017, had been with LMSP since it was first formalised in 1986. He served as treasurer from 1988 to 1997 and was captain from 1998 to 2011. In 1997 he was honoured with a Life Membership in recognition of his services. In addition to his contribution to Lake Mountain, Keith also patrolled at Mount Hotham and was an assessor with the Australian Ski Patrol Association.
